Despite tourism being one of the few sectors in the Spanish economy to show growth, the Spanish government have accepted lobbying from the hotel industry that believes that private home owners that rent out their properties to tourists are damaging the economy and the hotel industry.
Therefore the government has recenty agreed to make it illegal for homeowners in Spain to rent out their homes unless they own multiple properties in the same development and have a tourist accommodation license.
