Coín is an ancient Andalucian town dating back to before Roman times. Nestled in the Rio Grande Valley, the town is a fast growing community of well over 20,000 people, of which foreign residents make up significant percentage.
Its central location is part of its popularity, as it is less that half an hour from the main coastal towns, such as Marbella, Fuengirola & Benalmadena as well as being close to Málaga capital and of course the beautiful countryside of the interior.
As well as the charming churches and town houses of old town, Coín boasts one of the regions best new shopping & leisure centres (La Trocha) and can assist with property purchases and sales in Alhaurin el Grande, Alhaurin de la Torre as welll as inland areas such as Pizarra, Alora, Ronda, Antequera and Iznajar.

Jon Sutton
English Solicitor & Partner
Jon Sutton qualified as an English solicitor in 2003 with a back-ground in accident investigation and the negotiation of personal injury claims in the UK. On joining De Cotta Law in 2005 he established the Personal Injury Department of the firm. Jon is now registered with the Málaga College of Lawyers as an abogado.
After gaining significant experience in property and inheritance law for both UK and Spain, Jon now heads our very busy Probate and Inheritance Department and is using his extensive experience of property matters to advise English speaking clients on buying and selling of property throughout Spain.
Jon deals with very complex inheritance matters often involving more than one jurisdiction. He can advise both UK and Spanish nationals on dealing with English estates where a Grant of probate is required. Jon can explain the different tax regimes to private clients and to English, UK and Spanish lawyers. Jon is also responsible for wills and can help with drafting wills for both England and Spain to ensure that assets are protected and new regulations and tax laws are taken into account.
With his background and skills Jon has now gained an international reputation for advising on Probate and Property cases in Spain. Jon Sutton is an English Solicitor and is registered number 301779 with the SRA and is now a Qualified Abogado registered with the Málaga college of lawyers number 6360.

Javier Florido
Abogado
Javier Florido is the senior Spanish partner at the firm. Javier has very strong litigation skills and he is able to advise on a broad range of matters including Personal Injury and Insolvency.
Javier appears regularly in the UK courts as an Expert Witness and provides expert reports on Personal Injury matters.
Javier brings a wealth of experience which helps clients to decide if they wish to seek settlement or to commence litigation. This can be for recovery of a personal debt, applying for charges against property or providing expert reports on Personal Injury matters.
He has also acted in major Debt recovery cases as well as boundary disputes and property cases. On Employment matters Javier is one of the few Adjudicators appointed by the Junta de Andalucia to decide on disputes between businesses and employees. This means he can provide sound advice to employers on the drafting of employment contracts, employment disputes and on all matters related to businesses operating in Spain.

Francisco Montes
Abogado
Francisco Montes is an established member of the Spanish legal team at De Cotta Law. Since qualifying as an Abogado in 2004, from the Granada’s University Faculty of Law, Francisco has gone onto specialise in Inheritance & Tax law, as well as Pr Commercial and Private Property Sales and Purchases.
In his spare time Francisco, who is married and lives locally, enjoys technology, especially digital photography and post production.

Birgit Zierlinger
Legal Secretary
Birgit, originally from Austria, is the legal secretary based in De Cotta Law’s Coin office.
In addition to being the first point of contact for clients, Birgit is also a experienced member of the team working in a paralegal capacity who prepares the relevant paperwork for Power of Attorneys, Wills etc. and arranges for these to be signed by clients at the local notaries.
Birgit looks after the general office administration and organisation and is also the client contact for assisting with logistical issues such as town hall communications, foreign resident registrations, utility connections etc.
In her spare time, amongst her many interests, she loves animals and cares for her pet dogs.

Lauren Sykes
Legal Secretary
Lauren Sykes is an Associate Legal Executive with experience of the law and procedures of the English courts working closely with her Spanish lawyer colleagues to provide advice in English on all aspects of Family Law. Lauren is bi-lingual having completed her education in Spain and studying for her Legal Executive exams which gives her ability to advise on English legal matters.
Lauren can assist clients about divorce, custody and maintenance and will explain to clients which jurisdiction and law would be applicable. This is particularly important where there are financial matters to be dealt with such as the payment of maintenance. In Family cases Lauren works closely with Reyes Gomez who is an Abogada – Spanish lawyer – and represents clients in Spanish proceedings.
As well as working in this area of law Lauren is also a key member of the busy Personal Injury department at De Cotta Law. For English lawyers seeking advice on Spanish questions of liability and quantum she can take instructions and work with Javier Florido, an experienced Personal Injury lawyer and with technical experts to provide expert reports.
